It is coming to the start of another New Year. Time for resolutions. You know the usual ones. Lose weight. Make more money. So we go in to see the doctor, take our physical, get our diet and we embark on the journey towards a healthier year. So we feel more energy and look better in our clothes.
So what about your golf game? Are you going to ignore it until spring or summer? Or are you going to go on your golf diet so your golf game matches how you feel and look in your new golf clothes? How do you know what your golf game needs to become better? Is it equipment? Swing improvements? Short game improvements? How was your putting?
You know you wanted to feel better and lose weight. You went to see the doctor. The doctor prescribed your diet and you go to work to adhere to the prescribed regimen. So it is also time to go see your local PGA Professional. The golf doctor! Let your golf professional give your game its physical. Start with the equipment. Are you up to date on the latest driver technologies? Does your driver allow you the maximum in yardage and accuracy? Have you been launch monitor tested to be sure? What about your irons? Are they fit for you? If you have had them for a couple of years or more, have you had them checked for loft and lie? Have you replaced the grips in the last six months to ensure your best hold on the club? What about your wedges? Do you have the correct wedges in your bag for your type of swing as well as the distances you need? Is your putter fit perfectly for you to align properly and hit the putt on line towards your target?
Once your equipment is checked, how about your techniques? Have your golf professional look at all aspects of your game. Let your professional prescribe what you need to improve your techniques. Then follow up with check–ups (you know, like the doctor wants) before the golf season starts so you can be performing at your best during the peak of the season.
And that "make more money" goal. Applies to golf? Absolutely! Just think of those weekend golf games. Just in case there is a "friendly wager" out there or tournaments throughout the year. A better golf game will improve your chances to profit in them.
So, it's a New Year. Start the refreshing and improving of your golf life as you do in your physical and financial life. Do it now and be healthy, wealthy and wise from the New Year.
