The former Asian Tour number one posted a fifth place finish at the BMW PGA Championship in Wentworth on Sunday to emerge as the highest ranked Indian golfer in the list.

Randhawa chalked up a commanding run on the Asian Tour this season nailing five straight top-10 finishes. He recorded a tied seventh place result at the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open followed by a runner-up performance in the SAIL Open. He followed through with three other top-10 finishes and is also ranked sixth on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit.

New Zealander Mark Brown, with two wins on the Asian Tour this year, is ranked 66th in the world while Indian star Jeev Milkha Singh slipped to 91st position and two spots above South African James Kingston.

England’s Simon Dyson was in 94th spot while China’s Liang Wen-chong is currently ranked 106th. Chinese Taipei Lin Wen-tang, who won the Asian Tour International in March, slid three spots to 108th.

The other Asian Tour members ranked in the top-200 are Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng (111th) and compatriot Thongchai Jaidee (138th), Scott Strange of Australia (164th), Korea’s Charlie Wi (174th), Indian duo of Arjun Atwal (185th) and S.S.P Chowrasia (186th), Thai youngster Chapchai Nirat (189th), Chinese Taipei veteran Lu Wen-teh (191st) and Scotsman Simon Yates (194th).

Korean star Choi Kyung-ju is ranked eighth on the list while a spot below is Asian Tour’s honorary member Vijay Singh of Fiji.

Unlike his more illustrious counterpart from India Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa has taken the steady route to make his way up the rankings. Jeev Milkha Singh on the strength of an incredible 2006 where he won on three different tours had become one of the highest ranked Asian’s breaking into the top 50. But Jeev had a poor 2007 and kept falling down the ranking charts. Jyoti Randhawa on the other hand has not been able to chalk up any big win, yet to win on the European Tour but he has been putting in some really good results, especially the run he had a couple of months back when he had 5 top 10’s in a row. He didn’t quite disgrace himself this week at Wentworth with a very good tied 5th finish in difficult conditions.

If he can continue this form of his then he is definitely on his way to becoming the top Asian Tour golfer, after all most of the other big stalwarts on tour have fallen by the wayside and by the look of things all hopes of the Tour rests on young golfers coming up through the ranks

Since its launch in 1997, Golf International has forged a reputation as the standout quality title in golf publishing. The caliber of columnists, writers, players and coaches is unrivalled, while the design and layout of the magazine separates it still further from the competition. In a congested market wrought with mediocrity, Golf International appeals to committed golfers who are as serious about their game as we are about ours.

The ethos behind Golf International is simple: our aim is to entertain, inform and educate our readers with a wide range of fresh and original editorial. Peter Alliss, Ian Wooldridge, Colin Callander, Tom Cox, Paul Mahoney, Clive Agran and John Huggan are listed among our regular columnists. Other notable contributors include Paul Trow and David Davies. We are particularly proud of our association with the teaching staff of the DLGA, who, under the guidance of the world’s No.1 coach – David Leadbetter – provide some of the finest instruction you will find anywhere. Monty’s coach, Denis Pugh, is another regular contributor, as is leading European Tour coach, Peter Cowen, and one of the world’s most innovative instructors, Robert Baker. The popular Senior Tour player, Tony Johnstone, has also made Golf International his literary home.

With the generous and on-going support of Volvo Car UK, we are committed to developing our Amateur pages, featuring regular profiles, interviews and tournament news from both the men’s and women’s amateur game. Another innovation has been our Business pages, which provide the magazine with a unique angle on business-related stories, along with regular features from our resident experts on golfing memorabilia (Kevin McGimpsey), betting (Jeremy Chapman) and motoring (Anthony ffrench-Constant). We hope you enjoy the magazine and invite you to be a part of our continued success.

With a new distribution partner – Comag – in place from the August ’06 issue (and already delivering a significant increase in newsstand sales), we will be raising our game in the retail sector while at the same time consolidating our position as the premium title in the air and selected-sponsorship sectors.
