  • Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Temptations Never End...

Located on a beautiful barrier island just a few miles from historic Charleston, Kiawah Island is rightfully considered a South Carolina golf destination. This small island, which owes its name to the Indian tribe of KEE-a-wah who inhabited the island prior to the colonization of America, has so much to offer to a vacationer. You will enjoy wide ocean beaches, long cycling tracks, magnificent golf courses set around meandering lagoons and pristine marshlands as well as comfortable accommodations complimented by unsurpassed dining and personal service.

Kiawah Island is even more popular because of its fabulous Kiawah Island Golf Resort. We recommend Kiawah Island Golf Resort for a memorable golf experience unlike any other. This is a place where fantastic golf is complimented by world-class accommodations, unsurpassed dining, and highly personalized service. Add to this a wide range of recreational amenities, including sparkling resort pools, excellent tennis courts, various Kids programs and refreshing Spa treatments.

Endless golfing possibilities await you at Kiawah. With five award-winning championship golf courses, the resort offers challenging play for all types of golfers. You can choose from the Ocean Course, Turtle Point, Osprey Point, Oak Point, and Cougar Point courses - all designed by legends and played by legends. Take a unique chance to experience for yourself why Travel+Leisure Golf Magazine voted Kiawah Island Golf Resort "#1 Golf Resort in the U.S".

Named "#1 Golf Course in South Carolina" and "America's Toughest Resort Course by Golf Digest, the Ocean course has been host of PGA tours and will host the Senior PGA Championship in May 2007, and the PGA Championship in 2012. Pete Dye's work-of-the-art Ocean course will not disappoint you if you are up to the challenge.

The 18-hole Ocean Course is a true masterpiece crafted by Pete Dye, highlighted by sudden wind blows, which challenge a golfer during the play. From one round to the next, a player can experience up to an 8-club difference on holes depending upon the direction and strength of the wind! Another highlight is that the Ocean Course has more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere – 10 right along the Atlantic with the other 8 running parallel to those. Each of the 18 holes is unique and designed for a different type of golfer. For those having passion for strategic holes, we recommend hole # 5; the toughest experience awaits you on hole#4, intrigue is to be found on the shortest par-3 hole # 3, and dynamism – on hole # 14 very much influenced by unpredictable sea breezes. Almost all holes on this course allow players unobstructed views of Kiawah's beautiful Atlantic coastline.

If someone asked us to describe the magnificent Turtle Point course at Kiawah, we would say that it is a traditional Jack Nicklaus's gem, the longest on the island, which makes players think rather than make strong, though careless, shots. Great accuracy and intelligent strategies lie in the basis of successful playing on the Turtle Point. Since the greens on the course are small, players need to be able to hit shots high if they want them to stop. Players need to be able to shape their shots. The Turtle Point is influenced a lot by wind, which blows in different directions throughout the day. This adds excitement to this intelligent golfing venue... It is no surprise that many important championships including the Carolinas' Amateur, the Carolinas' PGA, and the South Carolina Amateur have been held on Turtle Point. Rated "4 ½ Stars" in the 2006 Golf Digest "Best Places to Play" guidebook, Turtle Point is a "must-play" on a Kiawah Island golf vacation.

The Osprey Point, or as it is also called "Lowcountry gem", designed by renowned Tom Fazio will make an ideal venue for women and the average player. It is not as much of a challenge, as the other two courses, but has tremendous setting. Featuring four large, natural lakes, fingers of saltwater marsh, and dense maritime forests of live oaks, pines, palmettos and magnolias. Each of the 18 holes is unique and ensures an enjoyable round. There are four distinctive par-3s, four extremely distinctive par-5s and ten outstanding par-4s.

The Oak Point, designed by Clyde Johnston as a "shotmaker's" course, requires strategy and a thinking approach. Built on the grounds of a former tomato and indigo plantation, the course features undulating fairways and challenging greens as major highlights. More than any other course on the resort, the Oak Point has lately overcome dramatic changes, greatly enhancing both the quality of golf and the overall guest service. Since then the Oak Point has received a near-perfect 4½ stars from the readers of Golf Digest magazine in their biennial "Best Places to Play" poll.

The last, but not the least, in the list of Kiawah Island Resort's splendid golf courses is the Cougar Point course. Perhaps, one of the most memorable experiences awaits you in the middle of Cougar Point's front nine, where you will be able to marvel at one of the most dramatic vistas on the island. Redesigned by Gary Player in 1996, the course features a great blend of short and long par-4s, great risk/reward par-5s, and extremely scenic and challenging par-3s. If you want advice on playing some of the holes, be to the right to avoid hitting over and around trees on hole # 5, be to the left to avoid trees guarding approach shots on holes # 7 and 8. For spectacular views - hole # 6; and if you are hunting for the toughest challenge, hole # 17. Recently awarded a near-perfect 4½ stars in Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" reader's poll, Cougar Point is one of the most desirable golf course experiences.

Jumping from golf to accommodation options, which are no less important on a perfect golf vacation, Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers both luxurious and expensive, as well as affordable and convenient, accommodations. For luxury seekers, the resort offer a beautiful seaside mansion, Five Diamond Award winner for 2007 Sanctuary Hotel, which features 255 spacious rooms and suites, including the 3000 square foot Presidential Suite. All rooms are uniquely designed to include exquisite amenities. A more affordable option is a Resort Villa, which will be ideal for families and groups of any size. The Resort also offers an exclusive collection of premier and private oceanfront beach home rentals with exclusive guest benefits.

When it comes to dining, enjoy the Resort's fine restaurants and cafes, where you can indulge in delicious food, prepared by the Resort's best Chef's. Some of our most favorite places include the Ocean Room at the Sanctuary; their signature specialty restaurant, Shrimper's Restaurant - for sea-food lovers; Jasmine Porch – a very romantic dining experience, and, perhaps, Haulover Creek Bar and Grill for casual yet delicious dining.

Once visited, Kiawah Island will become a favorite, and a place to recommend to friends!

If you come to North Carolina to play golf, you will experience the utmost of true classic golf! Whatever you wish to do on your vacation, North Carolina has it all.

As for golf, the best resort to visit in North Carolina is Pinehurst Resort and Golf Club. In fact, this is the largest golf resort in the USA, which offers an impressive 144 holes for golfers of all levels of play.

    True Golf for Every Golfer

If you seek to experience classic golf, you will find no better golf destination than Pinehurst. This small and romantic village was given a new life in 1895, when Bostonian philanthropist James Walker Tufts laid the foundation for the first middle-class health retreat here... Since that time, what was meant as a middle-class retreat has turned into the preeminent golf and leisure travel destination, which continues to win the hearts of many who come here to stay and play golf.

Eight fabulous golf courses with four of them rated championship will be at your disposal if you stay at Pinehurst Resort.

Pinehurst No.1, designed by Leroy Culver and later redesigned by renowned Donald Ross, features a splendid classic short layout of 6,128 yards. A very playable though challenging course with Donald Ross's clearly seen touch. By the way, the #1 Course is the most scenic and picturesque in design. So, if you want to combine your play with breathtaking scenery, Pinehurst No.1 will satisfy your demand for aesthetics!

The championship Pinehurst No. 2 is a more famed course for it has been recently home to the 1999 and 2005 US Open, PGA Championship, and Ryder Cup. Donald Ross's creation from beginning to end, the marvelous No. 2 is a challenge because of the combination of various factors such as length, topography, unruly routing, and water features - that can make you laugh and cry at the same time. You will enjoy the course's crowned greens, and carefully placed bunkers, which form the strategic layout. Play the course and you will understand why Pinehurst No.2 is among the top 10 courses in the country, and site of more championships than any other course in the US!

If you are a true Ross fan and like his golf course designs, you will experience most of Ross's golf on Pinehurst No.3! This classic Donald Ross short course features rolling terrain and dome-shaped greens, which have been recently renovated, making putting accuracy even more at a premium. For those golfers who don't give any preference to a golf course designer, Pinehurst, No. 3 can be the perfect warm-up for the next championship round.

The next course to follow is Pinehurst No.4 – Tom Fazio's course. Though originally created by someone else (Donald Ross in 1919 and then redesigned by R.T. Jones and Rees Jones), the course is associated with Tom Fazio who accomplished a complete makeover in 2000. This brand new course, Fazio's superior tribute to Pinehurst, with over 140 pot bunkers dotting the landscape, offers a championship challenge to those who dare. Some of the most picturesque scenes at Pinehurst await you on holes #13 and #14. Site of the 2008 U.S. Amateur, Pinehurst No.4 invites you to practice your shots on its championship ground.

Pinehurst No. 5 is Ellis Maples's creation though having a key Ross feature - Mother Nature as the best guide in golf architecture. In comparison to its sister courses, #5 is very tight and has numerous out-of-bounds stakes lining its fairways. Besides, it has more water hazards than any other course at Pinehurst. What you'll see and experience is a lot of variety in the layout - uphill and downhill, left-to-right and right-to-left, long and short par fours. You will not be disappointed with this very playable, enjoyable 18- hole.

If you prefer long courses, then maybe you will like Pinehurst No. 6, which is extremely long and has many elevated greens. The original 18 holes were designed by George Fazio in 1979, however, the course was given a new life when it was renovated by Tom Fazio in 2005. As a result, the course was granted a championship status due to its new putting greens, renewed bunkers rolling hills, all new level teeing areas, expanded practice area, etc. The back nine is one the most difficult anywhere. Much can be said about the superb Pinehurst No.6, but one thing is true – if you love long-yard Fazio designs, this course will become your favorite.

If you await something unexpected and extraordinary from a golf course, come and test your skills on the magnificent Pinehurst No. 7. Designed by Rees Jones and renovated in 2003, course #7 is truly one of the boldest and most dramatic golf courses at Pinehurst. The course is laid out on undulating terrain on some of the most rugged land around the Village of Pinehurst with a lot of natural vegetation coming into play. With the use of landforms in equal parts the course assists and challenges the golfer at the same time - down off many tees into the fairway, back up on a number of holes into the greens. It is interesting how the wetlands dot the landscape-particularly on the short holes– this feature will definitely add zest to your play. With vast expanses of the sand, the "fingers" of bunkers on the 16th and the large, undulating greens, this course is sure to leave you visually stimulated on each shot. Playing course No. 7 you should know the reason for each and every movement – so your search for unexpectedness will be fully rewarded on Pinehurst No. 7!

The last but not the least golf course in this award-winning golf course is another traditional Fazio design – Pinehurst No.8! All Fazio design lovers, this is your course! This proven championship course traverses 125 acres of wetlands and freshwater marshes. Into this design, Fazio incorporated signature Ross features, including dips and swales around the greens, sloping greens, and false fronts. Home to the PGA Club Pro Championship in 1997 and 1998, the course daunts and delights all who play it. Take part in a celebration of a century of great golf – play superior Pinehurst No. 8, which completes the unique octad of golf courses at Pinehurst.

Overall, all the eight excellent golf courses should be on your "must-play" list as offering great variety in layout and difficulty levels. However, tastes differ... and if you are up to the challenge, try the No. 2. or the No. 6 course. If you like bold and unexpected layouts – go for Pinehurst No.7. For spectacular scenery, try Pinehurst No. 1. The shortest course, Pinehurst No. 3 will be good if you want to polish off your shooting skills or teach your kids the game of golf. Experience the utmost of classic golf at Pinehurst Resort and Golf Club!
