  • Quintic Consultancy reveals latest Golf Ball Roll Putting Analysis Software

March 2011: The pioneering Quintic Consultancy has revealed its latest Ball Roll Putting Analysis Software that allows each element of the roll of a golf ball to be summarised graphically and numerically in a way that was formerly only available for full swing analysis software for irons and woods.

This latest development in the Quintic Software makes recordings by this unique golf tool much easier for users to understand and therefore to analyse.

Unlike other putter-fitting software which tracks the golf club, the Quintic Software tracks the performance of the golf ball using motion capture of up to 260 frames per second.

As a putt is launched, the software automatically recognises markers on the golf ball and immediately produces fully digitized analysis of each putt by tracking the golf ball for the first 30cm of its journey on a given length of putt. It then instantly and clearly shows the ball speed, sidespin (cut or hook), angular rotation (degrees & RPM), vertical bounce, launch angle and point at which true roll occurs using graphics.

The average range, standard deviation and consistency of each putt is automatically updated after each putt and saved into a session folder which allows for easy comparison when using different putters, changing the loft / lie / length of a putter, before and after a putting lesson.

“The Quintic Software is pioneering in the world of putter-fitting software as we track the golf ball - as opposed to the golf club – in order to measure the performance of the ball,” says Dr Paul Hurrion, an internationally-recognised sports biomechanist and renown putting coach who is the brainchild behind the Quintic Ball Roll Putting Analysis Software.

"Once you know what is happening to the ball, it is easy to provide expert advice on how to alter the putting stroke, posture, change the set-up of the putter or even recommend an entirely different type of putter (blade against mallet, centre versus heel shaft and face-balanced against toe heavy) in order to improve your putting and hole more putts.

“By producing pictorial graphs and numeric tables of all the various elements of the analysis software, it makes it extremely easy to interpret exactly what is happening with each putt.
“Moreover because the putting student can now actually see and so more easily understand the putting data, there is no room for doubt or argument, making the Quintic Software an excellent tool for putting coaches and indeed putting manufacturers.”

Using the Quintic Ball Roll Putting Analysis Software, coaches are able to ensure that the individual golfer’s set-up posture is correct and recommend changes to the length, lie and loft of their putter in order to obtain true roll of the golf ball off the putter as soon as possible, resulting in a greater number of putts hitting the bottom of the cup.

“Whether a professional or amateur, the importance of putting as part of a player’s game should never be underestimated given the number of strokes in a round that are taken on the greens,” continues Hurrion.

“Golfers are both amazed and impressed after undergoing analysis of their putting using the Quintic Software as they are immediately able to see and feel tangible results for themselves; quite simply, they manage to hole more putts.”

Hurrion, who coaches the likes of Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, Robert-Jan Derksen and Oliver Wilson, has an international reputation as one of the world’s best putting coaches using biomechanical theories. He uses the Quintic Ball Roll Software on a regular basis in all his analysis work carried out with some of the world’s top golfers that he teaches.

The Quintic Software is also useful tool for manufacturers as part of research and development into the design of putters and is already being used by top putter brands, PING and TaylorMade.

“In our view, Quintic Software is a great fitting tool, a unique coaching tool and essential research tool for the golf industry,” concludes Hurrion.

  • Nick Watney uses Titleist Pro V1x to winning effect at WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral

Following the example set by fellow Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald a fortnight ago when he claimed his first WGC title, Titleist Brand Ambassador Nick Watney fired a final round 5-under par 67 to win the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral.

Watney birdied the 72nd hole to claim a two shot victory in Florida and register his third PGA Tour victory. Continuing his stunning start to the 2011 season, Watney’s first victory follows three consecutive top-6 finishes and elevates him to #1 in the PGA Tour scoring average and #2 in the FedEx Cup points, behind fellow Pro V1x loyalist Mark Wilson.

Trusting Titleist equipment from tee-to-green in Florida, Watney’s winning equipment included the Pro V1x golf ball, 910D3 driver, 910F fairway, 910H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design wedges and Scotty Cameron Tour 350 putter. The precision and playability of Titleist equipment helped Watney finish on top of one of the strongest fields of the season at Doral, with his set custom built to tame the TPC Blue Monster. Having his irons bent one degree weaker than standard and adding an AP2 #3 iron to his set, in place of a 19? 910F, Watney played the required shots into each hole at Doral, making 12 birdies and one eagle over the final 36 holes.

Watney was joined at the top of the leaderboard by a host of Titleist golf ball loyalists including Anders Hanson (Pro V1x) who finished tied-3rd and Titleist Brand Ambassadors Adam Scott (New Pro V1), Rickie Fowler (Pro V1x) and Rory McIlroy (Pro V1x) who finished tied-6, tied-8 and tied-10 respectively. Of the 14 players who finished among the top-10 and ties in Florida, 10 relied upon the legendary feel and control of Titleist for their success. Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the WGC-Cadillac Championship with 37 players putting their trust in the #1 ball in golf, more than three times the nearest competitor with 12. The strength of Titleist’s product range also led to the brand topping the counts for iron sets, sand, lob and approach wedges, and putters respectively.

On the PGA Tour, Titleist Pro V1x loyalist Michael Bradley claimed the Puerto Rico Classic ahead of an all-Titleist top-3, beating Titleist Brand Ambassador Troy Matteson (Pro V1) at the first play-off hole. Completing the top-3 was Titleist Brand Ambassador Hunter Haas, who finished alone in third, two shots back from the play-off. Bradley’s victory continues Titleist’s impressive win count on the 2011 PGA Tour with 10 of the first 12 events being won by a player teeing up the legendary Pro V1 or Pro V1x, improving Titleist’s 2011 worldwide golf ball win count to 22, compared to 6 for the nearest competitor.

A first World Golf Championship victory for Titleist Brand Ambassador Nick Watney, coupled with a further victory for a Titleist golf ball loyalist on the PGA Tour, continues to prove that the world’s best players opt for the matchless performance of Titleist for their success.
