What will we be saying?

What will we be saying?  Could 2008 be a year for the ages?  Beyond that, will we be telling our kids, grandkids and what will be the lore about the career?  Will there be new superlatives, words created?  What will we be saying?

I just read a statistic that Steve Gribin posted in his weekly newsletter.  Tiger made 100 birdies in the last 5 tournaments he played. Stop.  Think about it.  100 BIRDIES. 28% of the holes he has played. 21% of the holes he played in all of 2007.  Basically, on average, at this rate that is 20 under per tournament.  To win on Tour in an event including Tiger, you better shoot 21 under or better.  As Ted Tryba said on the Golf Channel, not only does Tiger have an effect on the players paired with him but now he affects the whole field.

What will we be saying?  Will 2008 be the year?  Will it be the year Tiger: wins all 4 majors?  most consecutive wins since 1945? most wins in the "modern" era? highest percentage wins versus starts?  Oh, the list can go on.

Will we run out of superlatives or will everything be Tigerized?  They say Augusta National has been. Will there be Tigeresque, Tiger-like, Tigeristic, etc?

The exciting thing is this.  It is sure fun to watch!  And it is sure great for the game.  Excitement, interest and sports at it's purest.  Athlete against himself and the golf course.  Athlete continuing to pursue the unattainable perfection but never giving up on the hope.

And when it is all said and done, what will we be telling the grand kids?
