But to be fair, I may not even commit the DVR space to it this week unless some of my favorites are in contention ... it's supposed to be a beautiful weekend here now that Gustav has moved on, and NBC isn't HD on DirecTV here yet ... and watching Vijay take a victory lap is not my idea of a good time ... but thanks for the history lesson, Sam!

Really nice post this week - I especially liked the history on Bellerive. I did not realize that there was other money besides the $10 million (that you hear about all the time!) - so I guess maybe these guys have more to play for afterall...I think they should be thrilled to be getting a bonus retirement account!

And two whole weeks without the "T" word...I take back just about everything not nice I ever thought about you. Thanks for making my day!

I have to disagree, Sam ... the FedEx Cup provides an interesting sub-plot to the post-major season, and the fact that it uses season-long performance to seed the 4-week event adds yet another interesting facet ...

I do not disagree with your comments on the Ryder Cup, however, and I'm really looking forward to watching this year to see who takes charge of this team ...

I think the Fed Ex cup idea started out with good intentions, but logistically it just doesn't seem to work...if players are opting out or don't have a chance, what's the point? I agree, I don't think it's needed. I do think that is a very nice photo of Paul Azinger!!

It's the weirdest thing - I read this article and when I'm done I feel insulted...huh. But hey, if you're the one man show kind of golf fan then I can see why you might be bored. I guess because golf is so much more than a spectator sport for me, being without Tiger isn't the end of the world...do I miss his talent? Sure. Absolutely. But honestly, I was glued to the British all week and never once thought about Tiger. The US Open was fantastic - Tiger winning in his physical condition was awesome, but the story for me was Rocco. I guess it's all about how we choose to look at things - my advice? Think about getting your Tiger tunnel vision checked...there's a lot of great golf stories out there if you take a look around.

I was ready to complement you until your third paragraph and you blew it away in the 8th. You are so far in the t-hole I doubt you'll ever see the sun light again. And once again you fire a barb with the Watson comment and then compare t-hole to apple pie. Check the smells-THEY ARE DIFFERENT! Bogey, your grips gone.

Bogey, you have got to get a grip on this tiger thing. A quick turn by t could snap your neck. Maybe we all who love golf should call it off until the messiah returns (much like the messiah on the political scene today) then we can resume play and be blessed with TV elite coverage regardless of t’s position or attitude on the course-for once it was a game of gentlemen, integrity and sportsmanship.

When you speak of personality and attitude demeaning other players, like t has it all together-for me I would not want a son or daughter imitating t.

I believe Stewart Cink has a chance of taking the bar, although he still won't be the show that Tiger is. I love to watch Tiger, I mean who doesn't. So without him involved this year if the doctors have their way, it would be like me watching Nascar without my favorite driver. I give credit to all these guys though. It's anyones game and it will be interesting to see who does come out on top.

Hurray for drmc for h;is comments about Tiger. Every time I watch golf, I always wonder if anybody else is playing? They follow him around even if he happens to be losing. I sometimes pass up the game because all I see is Tiger this Tiger that. Some one should tell him we can read his lips when he swears after he misses a putt or drives a bad ball.

Lets give the other players a break and show them once in a while. Frankly I won't miss seeing him and it will be a pleasure to watch golf again without all the tiger hype!

I have frankly heard enough about Tiger Woods. He has to be the most ill mannered, self- aggrandizing, attitudinally immature, and “it’s all about me” players on the tour.

When he slams clubs, curses with vulgarity that should demand censure, not one word is mentioned and the TV elites and coverage immediately becomes non descript-I am sure that were a commentator to say what viewers are thinking, he would be censured, not the Holy Grail of golf according to Tiger.

No doubt he is an unbelievable talent, but the coverage during the US Open so sickenly syrupy it showed the drive by media of the PGA elite has a lot to learn about what the average fan is thinking. Sadly, but applauded by, when the Tiger is out of contention, the coverage remains fixed on him.

He had a chance to be far and above after his first Masters’ win, but within a year his immaturity blatantly struck through and no one asked for accountability. This man is passed 30, it is time that someone demanded he act like an adult-particularly on the golf course. His personal life is his, but if you are intent on making him the icon of golf, demand something in return.

For now I am ABT-anybody but tiger!!

This is one of the truest aricles I have ever read for a duffer like me. I drive straight and I cannot chip or pitch to the green. I get it to the green and the hole could never be big enough for me to putt in. Then I hit the one great shot and I know I am coming back. Thanks for the fun article and being so honest.

I wanted to thank you for choosing to write about the Golf Digest Challenge this week. When I first read about this contest I thought it was terrific - I know I rooted for (and voted for) John Atkinson because I felt he deserved the chance to "try" to overcome adversity (battling Torrey Pines) instead of being "forced" to overcome adversity (battling cancer). I didn't realize until reading about the event that all of the finalists got to play Torrey Pines - that's cool! I thought his celebrity playing partners were great, too! I'm so bummed I missed watching it on TV on Sunday. This story made my heart happy.

So why don't you get some actual 10 hadicappers to give Torry Pines a shot and let us know how it goes? I don't think they will break 100, but anything is possible. And it will give you something to write about. I'm not volunteering, I wish I had a 10 handicap.
