    Michelle Wie and Majors

Will Michelle Wie win a Major Championship in 2007? I am very curious what other golfers think about this.

PGA...no way.   LPGA tournament..not this year.  Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it true she can only play in 6 LPGA tournaments untill she turns 18?  And she's 17 this year right?  So that doens't leave many tournaments to win out.

I have no doubt she'll win after that.

I think she will do great also! She was really really good last year and came so close to many wins. I think she has learned from all that and will break through this year!

Freddie...what are you thinking?  She can only play six events until she's 18 right?  I will admit, she's gotten close (placing second a few times) but I think we have a bet here.

Well, no offense to those of who who are Michelle Wie fans, but ...

She will not win any majors on any tour this year.  I don't believe she will make any cuts on the PGA tour this year either.  The PGA should step in and stop her from taking up any more slots in PGA events.  She just does not have the experience, the guts or the talent to compete with the men on the PGA tour.  SHe should play her 7 events on the LPGA tour and forget about playing with the men.  Look at Annika - she is probably pound for pound one of the best golf players ever, yet she has nothing to prove.  Her record speaks for her.

Michelle Wie on the other hand needs to concentrate on the women's tour.  My prediction is if she does 2007 like she did 2006, she is washed up.

WOW, I cant imagine saying that if Michelle Wie doesn't do anything in 2007 will be washed up. That just seems crazy.

She has a fantastic swing for guys or girls and tremendous power and touch, she is going to be one of the best ever.

Name me one other player besides Michelle Wie who has garnered five top-5 finishes in their last five major tournament appearances. It ain't happened in this century, oh excuse me yes it has its MICHELE WIE!!!

She will make a million bucks playing part-time professional golf  in 2007 and win a major. Name me another 16 year old that has done that on any tour.

Cant we all get off her case and just sit back and wait for the greatness to evolve!

Re: RE: Michelle Wie and Majors

Press - you are missing my point:  She needs to relax and let the greatness evolve - on the LPGA tour.

The golf world is on her case because she is trying to do something beyond her ability and in the public eye that only works if you succeed - she has not.

The great performance you note is all on the LPGA tour - and that is where she should play all the time.  If she does that, she will win big and will be highly regarded.  But if she keeps playing on the PGA tour (in which her performance is consistently shooting in the 80s, finishing last and/or quitting before the cut), she will lose sponsors, fan support and her "buzz".  So, I stand by what I said, if she does in 2007 what she did in 2006, she is washed up.  She will still play golf dramatically well and will win if she focuses on the LPGA tour, but she will not draw the crowds and the endorsements she has now.  But this competition with the men needs to stop until she can prove she can beat the women - which she has not yet done at all.

Re: RE: Michelle Wie and Majors

I would like to see her also stick with the LPGA and dominate there before making the leap to the PGA Tour; its really not the men's tour though. Its the Professional Golf Association Tour. Its not been coined the MPGA yet, so until that time, she should play whenever she can. It will only help to improve her and her experience level. I play with alot of very good players and though I do not win all the time, I improve by playing under pressure with some of the best. She is not doing anything beyond her ability.

She will be one of the best to ever play, mark it down. She is the most visible golfer other than Tiger Woods and she will be for years to come.

Again, I agree she should play full time on the LPGA, but sice she is limited in appearances she needs to take advantage of every event she can get in right now whether it is on the LPGA, PGA or Nationwide.

Also, the sponsors will never leave, just take a look around at sports stars through the years that we all thought would never pull a check from a sponsor again.

Oh and Mead, she will play in the US OPEN this year, the MENS US OPEN!

I guess we will all have to just wait and see!

I think she'll do well.. How many wins.. who knows .. there are a lot of talented young LPGA players out there with Carey, Paula and Nathalie.... She's young so she has some time on her side.

At least she has considered her education to be somewhat important with the decision to continue her college education.

I also think Michelle will do very well this year and just wait until she can play an entire season and concentrate on one tour!

I am in on the US Open for her this year and totally agree that playing with better players and difficult situations is only making her better for the future.

Michelle Wie...let me think about this for just a minute: great talent, textbook swing & a $10 million deal with Nike. Every sixteen year old teenager's idea of "cool."

I can only imagine how good she is going to be when she grows up and really gets serious...I just don't see a major title in the short term, but I'm rooting for her.  Anybody else out there cheering too?

Mead...I'm on your side on this one.  We both know she'll eventually ;place first...however, we also know it's not going to happen this year.

I think it would be great for the sport if a woman could compete on the PGA.  But she should stick with the LPGA, prove herself and slowly creep into the PGA...if possible.  If not...she's kinda of setting herself up for frustration disappointment.

Again, I think she's great and good for the game.  And 2DownPress....the quesiton was will she place first...not if she'll get second.  We're not questioning her abilities.  Just if she'll place first this year.
