    Women in Golf

Okay, maybe this topic isn't of interest to everyone, but I've got to tell you, this blog article by Steve Gribin was VERY good- you can find it here.

I just have to say on a sidebar that there is SO much good reading on this site, and sometimes I forget to browse around because I am too busy having to deal with trash talkers. Wink

Anyway, back to the article - the jist of it is that the author wonders why there aren't more women in the PGA of America in Texas, and he uses some sources to show the small amount of women professionals and some other statistics about women & golf - there is also a great post reponse to this article...well worth the read.  What struck me was that in Texas there are 26 women out 763 members of the PGA in North Texas - I would have thought for sure there would be more...

Of course it got me curious..so I sent an email to the Minnesota chapter of the PGA of America to find out how many women members there are here...the quick response I got back told me that there are over 600 members in total in the Minnesota section (includes MN, the Dakotas, and part of WI) and there are 31 women in that number...now I realize that I don't exactly live in the hotbed of golf activity, but Minnesotans love their golf when they get to play, and with a larger geographic area I had hoped the number would be larger.

The article sort of transitions into why women golfers are a good market to target, and I found this document on the web that has some of the same data that is used in this article...you can check it out here:  http://www.golf2020.com/Reports/WhatWomenWant.pdf  I haven't really had a chance to read through the whole thing yet, so I'll have to wait to comment more...I just wanted to make sure you all knew about this and get a chance to read and share your thoughts on such an interesting topic.  I hope we can have a good discussion!

What in the heck...I just read the news that Golf for Women Magazine has ceased publication  - what a disappointment for women golfers.  you can read the Editor's note HERE

I have been a subscriber for many years, and while I think it had become more "fluff" in recent years, I still found good and interesting articles in there.  I guess with the web and TV stations taking more of the market, magazines are becoming something of the past...that's too bad.

Maybe tees2greens could find a couple female professionals and have a few Ladies Instructions to replace this loss.  Smile

that is bad news indeed ... my sister was also a subscriber ... I sent her the link, just in case she didn't already know ... I agree that print mags will continue to fade away in the coming years, but I think good electronic format mags and sites should hang around for a while ...

The Golf For Women web site is still up and running, but it's still unknown if they will keep updating it or not.  They still have a link to subscribe to the magazine on it, but when you click on it, it goes to a Golf Digest link.  I already get Golf Digest, so they won't be getting any more money out of me.  I do think they will be giving refunds to people who still have issues due on their subscriptions.  I'm still bummed out!!

we love the idea of supporting women in golf. We've had several women writers here, but none for instruction. Hopefully that will change one day soon. If you know anyone though, please let us know!
