    My Top 10 List

I love top ten lists - so I figured it might be fun to make one today...

Top 10 favorite things I've read on tees2greens.com so far:

    10.  Sam Johnson writing about which PGA players would make the best female golfers…and he called Phil “the one with the biggest boobs”.  I remember saying in my head…I can’t believe he actually wrote that!  And I laughed.

    9.  The Steve Gribin blog title:  My Man Crush on Tiger – guys sharing their feelings…it just warms my heart!  I even used the Man Crush description with people I know – thought it was funny stuff.

    8.  The whole Golf Jokes thread – who doesn’t need a good laugh every once in awhile?

    7.  The “What’s in the Bag” thread – I like being able to see what the Pros are using.  Thanks for posting all of those, Webmaster!

    6.  The Golf Pet Peeves thread – a great place to vent!  My current pet peeve?  No one has removed all the snow from our golf course yet!

    5.  The Lefty Links Blog – if you haven’t gone and read Lefty Golfer’s blog posts, you’re missing something good!!  Best thing is you can find your way there right from this site – just go to “Golf Blogs”, scroll down a little and you’ll see him!

    4.  All of the golf tips & advice from the super smart T2G golf pros! (it’s nice to read that other people have the same challenges I do when they ask a question)  I’m always impressed with the helpful and friendly responses.

    3.  “2008 has little to question Chipshot. This is the beginning of Tiger Woods career. These are the years we will remember most and when he breaks the most records. He will hit milestones in 08, so watch your new found love of the Tiger closely. Cheers!” ~ Working Hack, in the Being a Fan thread, January 2008

    2.  “HAHA I have this week locked up on you CAT!” ~ Golf Addict, after picking David Duval to win the Bob Hope.  I think we all know how that ended…

And my favorte thing to read here at tees2greens:

    1.  All of the great comments, insights, stories, and experiences from all of the cool posters here – it’s been a LONG winter!  Thanks to everybody who helped me keep golf in my imagination and in my heart.  Happy Spring everyone.

Thanks for barely including me in your "Top Ten" list.  All I can say is that I’m glad it wasn’t a "Top Nine" list.  Wink  Seriously, it is always good to hear from readers who don’t question my lineage.

Great top ten list. But don't forget the great pictures of the pros and the beauty of the courses that you see on Tees2Greens. Putting the pictures with the great articles really gives you a top flite product.

    Re: My Top 10 List

My Top 10 list for this week comes about as I am anticipating some serious quality time with my TV and the Masters…we’re on our way back to CBS after spending the past several weeks watching golf on NBC…and also ESPN if you watched the ladies at the Dinah Shore.  Some of you are lucky enough to have the Golf Channel, but sadly, I don’t have it (man, I need to upgrade!)…anyway, I thought I would share my 10 favorite golf commentators…the voices, the humor, the commentaries and opinions that make my golf watching experience so much better!

    10.  Sam Johnson…Oh, shoot, he doesn’t count!  But someone almost as handsome…Jim Nantz.  The “Welcome Friends” gets me every time.  I know he drives some people crazy, but I like his voice and he’s pals with Freddie!

    9.  Mark Rolfing – I understand he does stuff on the Golf Channel, but I really like him as an on-course guy for NBC.

    8.  Gary Koch – another NBC guy – he does a great job explaining shots and what options are out there for players-I think he does great conversing with the guys in the tower.

    7.  Johnny Miller – I have a like/hate feeling about Johnny – some days I think he’s great, but then others I just want to hit the mute button.  Of all the Pros who have gotten the 18th Tower status, I think he’s one of the best (as compared to Lanny, Curtis, Faldo, North, etc)

    6. Judy Rankin – watching the Nabisco this past weekend I was thrilled that Judy was one of the announcers – I think she does a great job and has some super insights into the game and the players…but I think she does great on the PGA tour as well…she knows the courses and explains shots well – by far my favorite of the ESPN bunch.

    5. Peter Kostis – is it just me or when you hear that name you automatically think of the Konica Minolta Swing Vision??  Dig his voice, appreciate his lessons and observations of players swings and mechanics, and he always seems positive. (if I hadn't just watched however many number of weeks of NBC golf he probably would be a few spots higher)

    4.  Vern Lundquist – his voice at the Masters is one of my favorites!  When he gets excited about a shot I just get caught up in it.  I know we don’t get to hear him on a regular basis, but he got moved up to #4 because he was born in Minnesota!!

    3.  Roger Maltbie – my favorite on-course guy…so knowledgeable – and great info on the players and course…and a great voice.

    2.  David Feherty – the humor, the irreverence, the honest reactions, the inside scoop on the players…all good stuff.  And the accent – love it.

    1.  Gary McCord – it was a tough call for my Top 5, but McCord gets top billing because when I think golf on TV, I think of him first.  Great bantering skills, good course info, and like Feherty, funny to me.  I still wish he was at the Masters.

I know I have left a few people out, and actually as I was thinking about this I didn’t realize how many would actually miss the cut – I also left out old-school, no longer with us faves such as Ken Venturi – honorable mentions go to Dottie Pepper, Dan Hicks, Bill Macatee, Charlie Rymer, and Peter Oosterhuis – I can’t get into Faldo or Andy North at all.  Who are your favorites?  Feel free to share!!  Okay, I’ve got to go find my remote!  Happy Masters Week Everyone!

    Re: My Top 10 List

Faldo is probably my favorite - I just like the way he looks at things.  Miller's foresight/insight is simply amazing, but he comes off just a bit too egotistical on TV IMHO.  As for the ladies, Judy is always solid, as is Kelly T from the GC (technically not a commentator, perhaps, but defintely holds her own talking golf with the guys on GC).   Feherty and McCord are very entertaining.

    Cheers!

    Re: My Top 10 List

The countdown is on – I’m going golfing next weekend…yippee!  I’m so lucky that I have a great group of guys that let me golf with them…most of my gal friends don’t have golf very high on their priority list so I’ve had to work my way into the “man’s world” of golf in order to get my fix of competition and enjoyment.  I’m about in the middle of the pack handicap-wise (playing from the girls tees), but there are several sandbaggers in the group (what is it with guys and sand bagging?  sheesh!)!  My years of golfing with the boys have given me a unique perspective into the interesting character traits of the guys I get to play with.  So to pay homage to them, here are my 10 favorite Golfing Guy Personalities (most of my buddies have multiple personalities!!).  Maybe you’ll find some of your own here, too…

    10.  The Gadget Guy – he’s the one that always seems to have new club or two in the bag.  Club manufacturers love this guy- he’s out spending $300 bucks on a new driver and the one that was in his bag is from last season (and we only have a half of a season up here).  He’s also the guy that likes to try what’s in other people’s bags.

    9.  Mr. All Cylinders – he’s the guy that never lays up, never really looks at options - it’s just “how long can I hit this ball” from the get-go…the score never seems as important as hitting par-5’s in two or flying over a sand-trap.  He’s usually really fun to watch because he goes so long – now if his short game would come around…

    8.  “I’m working on my game” Guy – always tinkering with his swing, putting stroke, stance, etc.  Usually a decent golfer but never commits to a change so doesn’t see a big change with his game.

    7.  Mr. Roboto – it’s like the world around completely disappears and once the pre-shot routine and swing start it’s exactly the same every time.  Usually a very mechanical swing and very consistent, but when it’s an off day, it’s off all day.

    6.  The Guy that explains every shot – after every swing, whether good or bad, there is some sort of explanation of the lie, swing, conditions, thoughts, etc. that impacted the result of the shot.

    5.  Mr. Where’s the Beverage Cart – mostly out for the enjoyment of the game and the company rather than the score – he usually buys, too, so I like being in that foursome!

    4.  “You should have to hit from the White Tees” Guy – all these guys blow past me on the tee, but I get to hear this a least once a round as I mosey up the middle and drop a few putts (and they take a few detours in the woods or water) and they find themselves down a few strokes.  I just smile and keep teeing it up on the Reds.

    3.  Mr. Blow-Up Hole – he will have a decent round going and then out of nowhere a triple or worse shows up…usually it happens out of frustration from one mistake that compounds into several extra strokes…sometimes he recovers, sometimes the whole round goes in the tank.

    2.  The Storyteller – just about any shot can remind this guy about some other shot or some other round and we get to hear about it.  The story usually gets better with time, and I don't mind hearing about it at all.

    1.  Mr. Streaky –my favorite because it can happen to any one of us -  every once in awhile the swing is great, the bounces are all good and the putts all drop – it’s the round we wait for all summer…and it’s hard not to ride the wave of his excitement.

Behind all of these personalities are great guys (and I love them all!) and I’m so thankful that they let me join them.  I can’t wait for the 2008 golf season!

    Re: My Top 10 List

Not a bad list ... let's see ... only one, no wait ... two ... okay, they all apply to me ... [heavy sigh] ...

What about the guy who doesn't think the rules are fair and/or doesn't see the need to mess with them on a practice round ... but still insists on collecting when he beats you?  He's essentially an "anti-sandbagger" and yet he can't understand why he places so poorly in the club tournament every year (when he does have to count all of those strokes) ... must be the tough conditions.

And, for what it's worth, I definitely make my sister hit from the white tees when we're playing a friendly competition round ... but when she's on my team (which is how we play most of our rounds together), then I think it's okay for her to hit from the reds ... is that being hypocritical?  Confused

    Re: My Top 10 List

HI 2putt - I've known a few "no rules" guys, but most of the guys are play with are good about it - maybe because I make them?!  And I like the term anti-sandbagger, too - there's one guy I know about who has this really low handicap, but just like you said, is never in contention when it comes to tournies or handicap events...sort of like "all talk and no action"?

I wouldn't mind playing from the whites if I was playing with someone of my same ability - but I'm not a particularly long hitter, so the upper tees just get me to a good position against the long guys off the tee.  And I must admit it's nice to be wanted in scrambles - I'd like to think it's for my charming personality and hilarious sense of humor, but reality is that most par-5's are green lights for the guys I play with if I can poke one out there.  But I'll take what I can get! Smile

    Re: My Top 10 List

absolutely ... my sister hits it about 230, so there is no way I can come close to keeping up with her when she plays the reds at most courses, but she sure comes in handy on those scrambles!

    Re: My Top 10 List

Hi Golf Friends!  Well, it finally happened - I golfed!!!  Woo Hoo!!  Just short of 6 months without taking a swing....what a relief!  Snow two times in April just about did me in, but I was able to keep my sanity in tact (relatively speaking) and wait it out.  My just-about 6 months of golf season starts now and I have to make the most of it - May is spring training...courses are wet and the weather is marginal, but I'll do my best to get out every chance I get.  June is pre-season...it can be a rainy month and if May stinks, I'm still trying to find the groove.  July & August are prime-time, best weather, fun events, and hopefully a few vacation days here and there.  The fall finish is my favorite - September golf in Minnesota can't be beat...a little more roll, beautiful scenery and less crowded courses.  I'm just so excited!!

But for my Top 10 List this week I'm going to share why I'm so happy it's finally golf season...

My Ten Favorite things about the beginning of Golf Season: 10.  Getting that first phone call – let’s go play!  It was cold – there was still some snow in areas, but I didn’t care – it was time to tee it up…finally.

    9.  Using brand new golf balls that I had to buy with my gift certificates from last season.  Callaway Blacks.

    8.  Deciding which golf shoes I’m going to wear!  I got three new pairs over the winter so it was a tough call, but I went with the blue & white Dexter’s. (it was a little too muddy to bring out the new Footjoy’s)…  and then it’s which hat!  So many choices!

    7.  Putting my golf stuff in the back of my car – once it’s there, it’s there for the rest of the season – it won’t be long until I hear golf balls rolling around back there…music to my ears.

    6.  Trying out my new clubs (I have a shopping problem) – the new 5-wood is fantastic!  The new putter, not so much – I never missed in the living room, but couldn’t make one if my life depended on it on the course.

    5.  The trash talking – oh how I’ve missed that!!  And the laughs…and the great shots…the first par…better yet, the first birdie…hitting a crisp iron…never going in a trap…all of the downwind holes…finding money in my golf bag!

    4.  Seeing golf friends again – my first round was with a good buddy who I only get to play with once a year – we had a blast.

    3.  The first drive of the year – I’m always a bit nervous – I never go to the driving range or practice before the first time out, so it’s all or nothing on that first shot…and it was good (thank goodness for the girls tees!).

    2.  The fresh air – it was a lot colder than I hoped it would be, but I love taking that deep breath & letting it fill up my lungs, closing my eyes and just letting my senses appreciate it all.

    1.  Forgetting about life for a few hours – golf just makes my worries and troubles seem to disappear while I’m out there…and even better, it gives me a better perspective as I’m forced to step off the grass and go back to reality again.  You really can’t know how much I needed that.  Life is good – and I’m so lucky.  Golf season has begun.
