    It is officially Spring, right??

All I can say is, thank heavens for the Masters this week or I might go completely insane.  Here's the great news I read this morning:

...BLIZZARD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DULUTH HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.

NORTHEAST WINDS GUSTING TO 40 TO 50 MPH...COMBINED WITH HEAVY SNOW OF A FOOT OR MORE...WILL RESULT IN A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HAZARDOUS WHITEOUT CONDITIONS FOR LOCATIONS NEAR LAKE SUPERIOR. IN ADDITION TO THE SEVERAL HOURS OF NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY... SIGNIFICANT DRIFTING OF THE HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED.

A BLIZZARD WATCH MEANS SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW...WITH STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITIES ARE EXPECTED. WHITEOUT CONDITIONS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY DANGEROUS OR LIFE THREATENING. PREPARE FOR THIS STORM NOW. MAKE TRAVEL PLANS ACCORDINGLY AND PREPARE A SURVIVAL KIT FOR YOUR HOME AND VEHICLE.

If you have sunshine today - enjoy it!!  Better yet, go golfing!!!

Right ... chance of flurries in central MO this weekend ... good thing the founder of the company I work for loves golf and installed a driving net upstairs in our tech lab!

Just when you hope the weather people are going to be wrong...snow is back in MN - I have a 3ft drift in front of my garage, power has been on and off all day, and the wind is blowing like crazy. And dang it, it's APRIL!!  I've given up resetting my clock.  Our ESPN stations have been out all morning, but they are back just in time!  It's time to find my quilt, some pillows and watch some Masters!  I'll shovel tomorrow.

    Enjoy the driving net 2putt!

Yesterday, and for the first time in 2008, the first number on my thermometer had a 6 on it!  62 to be exact  Party!!! - the snow we just got is melting and I think I'm actually starting to see a couple blades of green grass show up.  It will still be a few weeks before any courses will open up by me, but if the weather holds it might be road trip time!  FINALLY, Spring is here!

It seems as if the weather is not going to cooperate again - I finally have an official tee time for my first round of golf for the year on Saturday and now it's going to rain!  Cripes!  I think it's going to be raining in the whole state of MN this weekend...we've got 10,000 lakes so we've got enough water already!  We are even in a flood watch for the next 3 days.  Let's hope the forecast changes!

You really should move farther south.  ;)

I say that now, while watching thunderheads dance around the Byron Nelson.  It dumped last night.  But it soaks up fast!

Well, after reading that we're in a winter weather advisory for the next day, moving seems like a great idea!!   Travel  We could get up to 3 inches of snow tomorrow with a high of 32 degrees (totally crazy!!!).  Needless to say, we canceled our golf trip this weekend.  I am predicting some couch time with the Byron Nelson instead.

Are any of you Texas people going to this tournament this weekend?  I sure hope so!  The course looks beautiful and hopefully the weather will cooperate.

I can send snow if you need it to cool down.  Confused

I went to the Nelson on Wednesday for a bit to watch some friends play in the Pro Am.The course looks totally different and for the better. I have requested that this web site do a piece on the changes with some visuals so hopefully we will see that!I hope it doesn’t snow too much Chip! If so get out the orange golf balls!

Re: It is officially Spring, right??

Hey Chipshot ... I finally played my first round of the year today ... it was church outing and was supposed to be a 2-person scramble, but the person that had been paired up with me didn't show, so I decided to just play my own ball and shoot a score for the handicap computer ... the outing was at the local muni, which is a rather short little par 70 affair that is not difficult if you don't get greedy ... I've only played it a handful of times, none in the last 6 or 8 years, so I didn't remember it very well ... I hit a lot of irons off the tees to keep the ball in play and my short game was pretty ragged, but I putted well and avoided big numbers on 17 of the 18 holes ... so all-in-all it was a good day ... and we're off and running!

p.s.,  has the snow melted yet up there?

Re: It is officially Spring, right??

Hi 2putt!  I am SO glad to hear you got your first round in...and it sounds like it was a good one...cool!  Irons off of tees - good golf course management...very nice.  I say that to my golf buddies all the time and they just roll their eyes at me and pull out their drivers.  I'm jealous that you putted well - I have been trying to find my putting stroke...my new putter is so different and I'm having a little trouble getting used to it.  But there are flashes of potential, so I'm not giving up yet.

I am happy to report that all the snow is gone (although about 20 miles north of me got 3 inches on Sat.!)  and I have golfed at least 9 holes every day since May 3.  Yesterday I shot the temperature for 9 holes - 38.  It was miserable out there, but I didn't want to end my golfing streak.  The downwind holes were fantastic!  Thankfully I have friends who are as nutty as I am so I was able to sucker someone into coming with me.  But the streak may end today since it's supposed to rain this afternoon and I decided it's probably not worth getting a cold...but if the rain holds off I will be out there!  The course is usually pretty empty this time of year so we can get in 9 in about an hour or so.  The rumor is we might get into the 60's by Thursday...that would be dreamy.

How has your weather been?  When is the next golf day?

Re: It is officially Spring, right??

You sound like the group of guys that play at Eagle Knoll down here ... they play all year 'round ... in the winter, they all have cart covers and propane heaters ... a bit too ambitious for me (at least until I retire!) ...

We're breaking all kinds of records for rain this spring, I think ... that, plus moving, plus busy job, has made it tough to play ... but now that I've kicked it off I'm going to try and keep it going ... I may run back out to the muni Thursday after work for their weekly 2-man scramble pick-up game ... it conflicts with another hobby of mine (singing) but something's gotta give and golf is going to win in the spring ...

You shot 38 ... in 38° ... farenheit?  I remember playing spring high school golf in Iowa in those conditions (flurries, etc.), but I'm way too old and soft for that now ... but congrats on the good round!

Re: It is officially Spring, right??

The weather has improved considerably since Monday - we're in the 60's!  And my game is going downhill fast - what the???  For the first time this year I wore a short sleeved shirt - and my game goes in the tank...that is no good!  Hopefully I can get out and practice over the weekend...although I see rain in the forcast - dang it!

2putt - I'm still in the semi-euphoric state of the beginning of golf season - I am so used to playing in marginal weather that it never seems like a sacrifice to be out there.  When I managed the clubhouse, the only time I got to play was when it was raining, so cold and wind is a step up!   I know I need to step back and appreciate that spring is finally here, but I'm already counting how many days I have left, so golf is on the top of the priority list...and let me tell you, my laundry basket is Not happy about that!  Smile

Playing out of town on Monday, so keep your fingers crossed for nice weather in Minnesota!
